OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, revealed on Thursday that it is investigating issues that users are experiencing with the AI software as it fails to function for many.
Numerous reports from ChatGPT aficionados on social media indicated issues with the software when it came to running queries — the bot wouldn't respond to them.
Others mentioned seeing "internal server error" messages. According to DownDetector.com, the outage began around 1:30 p.m. EST and had started to decline about an hour later.
About 92% of users who reported issues with the software indicated issues with ChatGPT itself, while a small percentage said the issues stemmed from the website or the API.
At approximately 2 p.m., OpenAI posted a message to its status page stating that ChatGPT, its API and its text-to-video generator, Sora, were "currently experiencing high error rates."
An update to that post, which was added at 2:18 p.m., said the issue was "caused by an upstream provider," with the company stating that it was monitoring the situation.
